Disco Balls & Vivid Florals: Wedding Inspiration

Sparkly disco balls, vivid colors, and lots of attitude……if you are obsessed with expressive colors then you’re going to love 80’s technicolor disco themed wedding shoot.

The theme of this shoot was a mash up of a several different ideas and things that we love: neon, cotton candy, balloons, crayons, glitter - a dream of any child who was obsessed with their color-blocked Caboodles make-up kits and endless quantities of funky enamel pins.

In conversations with the photographers, Teri Ann Forck and Amber Koelling, we were ready to produce a wedding shoot that felt a bit unconventional, out-of-the-box, and edgy while simultaneously advocating for realistically beautiful wedding themes. Working in the wedding industry you wind up seeing a lot of weddings, and after a while your creative heart is ready to produce something dramatically different. We decided to shake things up and dive head first into the land of possibility.

THE LOOKS

We chose to select two sets of couples for this shoot to demonstrate that an 80’s technicolor disco themed wedding theme transcends any preconceived notions of what a “traditional” or “unconventional” wedding looks like in the 21st century.

THE UNCONVENTIONAL

When thinking about hair and makeup, we were inspired by fashion mogul, Twiggy, and recording artist Dua Lipa. Middle-parted hair is accented with hair glitter and larger-than-life bottom eyelashes give our model a fresh look. The bride wears a textured long sleeve a-line Pollardi bridal gown featuring a mile-high slit and all-over glitter. To finish off her look, we add disco ball earrings and a worn denim jacket featuring a “Just Married” patch supplied by Daily Disco.

The groom sports a funky hot pink suit jacket and no-tie look to maintain a laid-back and casual vibe.

Nephew & Co. supplied this bride a fabulous and bold bridal bouquet featuring an assortment of fresh and dried florals. The mix of oranges, yellows, and fuchsias really makes this a knockout bridal bouquet option.

THE TRADITIONAL

A polished couple is completely compatible with a technicolor disco themed wedding. For the bride, we selected a Pollardi gown featuring a lace bustier top and soft a-line skirt. Soft, tousled waves are topped with a rhinestone “Disco” hair barrette. The groom’s black suit and bowtie compliments this traditional wedding attire look.

This bride held a beautiful, petite bouquet that makes me think of sunshine. This bouquet featured a mixed of poppies, roses, and many dried florals.

DETAILS

We went through a few concepts for the invitation suite, and we kept circling back to the words “fun” and “party.” What other than confetti screams these two words? Claire with Paper Hearts Paper co. create a confetti shaker invitation and paired it with bubbly font and conversational copy.

THE TABLESCAPE

Our head table design features a mix of vibrant color and textures: you’ll find sparkle, shine, glitter, and more. Multi-sized disco balls hang over the head table and can be found on the actual tabletop. The orange, yellow, and pink floral arrangements correspond with both of our bridal bouquets and we tied in the colors with both the linen and the colored glassware.

Technicolor lighting amplifies the color story for this head table design. Blue Diamond Events mixed orange, pink, and purple lights to give us these impactful results.
