Allyson + Jake | A Beautifully Tailored Wedding at The Millbottom
Allyson and Jake began their love story back in high school where the two quickly became friends. Their friendship continued as the left for college, which eventually led to the two dating. Eventually, Jake proposed to Allyson while on a little vacation in Branson.
When it came to wedding planning, the couple wanted a venue that was close to their friends and family but also complimented their ideal wedding look, which I would describe as beautifully tailored. The Millbottom, Mid-Missouri’s premiere wedding venue, was the perfect setting for this Jefferson City couple. This industrial wedding venue hosted both the ceremony and reception for this wonderful Thanksgiving weekend wedding.
We asked Allyson, “What made you choose to work with Plan it Terra? Why did that matter to you?”
Allyson and her bridesmaids began the day at Sharper Image, where the girls laughed over bubbly and adorable snack boxes, which included wedding day staples like Greek yogurt and fruit. The hair and makeup team did a fantastic job, and Allyson looked stunning with her long, flowing hair and off-the-shoulder crepe gown, which was altered by JM Couturiere.
Jake and the groomsmen got ready for the day’s festivities over at The Millbottom; they utilized the venue’s newest addition, the loft space, to hang out and suit up. While the men and women got dressed for the day, the photography team, led by Amber Koelling, photographed the ceremony and reception space. Allyson dreamed of a modern, upscale wedding, and she chose a classic palette of grey, white, and black with pops of green provided by the greenery. Kent’s Floral did a fantastic job with the florals; our favorite piece was definitely the florals that were suspended on the custom acrylic seating chart, created by Pretty Little Things.
It was time for Jake to make his way to the capitol building, where the photo team caught some great portraits of this groom! In the meantime, Allyson and the bridesmaids hitched a ride on the iconic green trolley from The Trolley Company so they could prepare for the next big thing - The First Look! Allyson met Jake at the capitol, where the two hugged, laughed, and cried. The rest of the afternoon, the duo spent time taking pictures with their wedding party. Of course, we cannot forget the photos with their dog, Myla!
Later in the afternoon, the Trolley Co took the group back down to The Millbottom, where Allyson did a first look with her dad and then took family photos. We loved this option so that there was zero pressure after the ceremony. Our team assisted with family photos and helped prepare everything inside the venue for the ceremony.
Before we knew it, it was time to get everyone lined up for the ceremony. For this wedding, guests were seated at their tables, which we often refer to as Oscar-style seating. This allows for a smoother transition from ceremony to reception when everything happens in the same room. The couple’s sweet flowergirl got super nervous when it was her time to walk down the aisle, so I helped lead her down. I love the photos Amber Koelling captured of this moment!
Allyson and Jake exchanged their vows on the stage at The Millbottom and sealed the ceremony with a kiss. The two left for some just married portraits while guests enjoyed cocktails provided by Barvino. Meanwhile, our team setup the buffet and the head table. It came together so quickly and so beautifully.
The couple was joined by their wedding party for the grand entrance, making their way into the reception ready and eager for dinner to begin. Dinner was casual and delicious, provided by a local favorite, Arris’ Pizza. Later in the reception, the couple were honored with a few speeches and danced with some of their loved ones. The Best Man speech was so touching; Jake is an identical twin, and one of my favorite moments was when his twin applied a nametag to his suit just to clarify that he was not the groom. The rest of the evening was filled with plenty of laughter and lots of dancing, which included fabulous pink, heart-shaped glasses and foam glow sticks. These were so fun to pass out; the dance floor was lit!
We provided Event Management services, which included a variety of planning meetings, timeline development, a venue walkthrough, assistance with the layout, confirming final details with vendors, facilitating the rehearsal, managing their wedding day, and so much more.
We asked Allyson, “What would you say to a couple who is thinking about booking us?”
