An Engagement Session at Wildcliff Events | Sarah + Ross

Ya’ll this couple is just the sweetest! Sarah and Ross have an energy about them that radiates joy and kindness. We were referred to them by a vendor, but honestly from the start they have felt like long time friends.

Sarah and Ross met in high school where they shared the same social group. They often saw each other on the soccer field or in the classroom. After graduation, they stayed in through friend gatherings. Things started to heat up once Sarah started her clinicals in Texas, which was close to where Ross was attending law school. Even though Ross was the one about to take the bar, Sarah was the one who laid down the law. After graduation, she made Ross officially ask her to be his girlfriend!

Fast forward to 2021. A rainy hike turned proposal when Ross ALMOST got down on one knee before Sarah interrupted with a enthusiastic YES! Let the wedding planning commence!

To hear more about Sarah and Ross and learn a bit more about their planning experience, be sure to read their engagement questionnaire!

Many thanks to our fellow Columbia vendor friend, Oak and Embers Photography for sharing these images with our team! We love this engagement shoot, especially because these were taken at Wildcliff Events, one of our favorite Mid-Missouri wedding venues!

Tell me about how you and Ross met.

We have been friends since Freshman year of high school (maybe even earlier- that's the earliest I can remember!). We have the same friend group and have always been really good friends- kept in touch even once in college and in grad school. We really starting to become more than friends- when I went to Texas for a clinical rotations (Ross was in Law school at UT), we started to hang out just the two of us every weekend and things took of from there!

Who proposed? Tell me about it!

Ross proposed to me on his birthday! We went hiking out in Knob Noster, MO, it was pouring and muddy the whole time! When I was sitting on his tailgate cleaning off my muddy shoes- he brought extra socks for both of us (he is always so prepared!) and asked if I needed a pair, which I said I did! When he pulled out the socks- he also pulled out a little box:) It was perfect! I was so excited I don't think he even fully got down on one knee and had the whole question asked!

How did you pick the Cooper’s Ridge as your wedding venue?

We wanted a industrial farm vibe with a lot of room for guest- my dad is 1 of 8 and Ross's mom is 1 of 5! We both have pretty big families!

How did you find all of your vendors?

Mostly through a preferred list on our venders website!

So far, what aspect of planning has been the most enjoyable?

Engagement photos and finally getting everything finalized/organized.

Do you have any advice for recently engaged couples?

I just focused on one step at a time. I am big on list so I made one big list and then made a really small list and focused on multiple small list until most of the things on the big list were gone. (one big list freaked me out!)

What are you most excited about for the day of the wedding?

The first look and finally saying "I do" to my most favorite person!

What are three words to describe the feel of your upcoming wedding?

exuberant, enjoyable, relaxed

What made you decide to hire a planner?

I really just wanted the planning process to go more smoothly and to make sure I have all my I's dotted and all my T's crossed! I really just want the big day to turn out great!

Hey, I’m Terra!

Born and raised in Missouri, I’m a grateful wife and dog mom to my rescue pups, Hildi & Lola. I’m a true believer in the pursuit of bold dreams, learning from mistakes, and staying curious.

I'm a girl that lives in her Chacos during the summer, and I'm typically always wearing lipstick. Yes, red is my preference! When I'm not helping engaged couples plan weddings, you'll find me on stage teaching Jazzercise classes. Needless to say, creating engaging experiences that leave people feeling good afterwards is my passion. Seriously!

I’ve created this blog and my wedding packages to empower you to plan an awesome wedding day and put all of the stress and obligations straight into the dumpster! Now that sounds like a party.
